Peter Salmon, TV Producer and Former Director of BBC North, was the driving force behind the BBC’s move to Salford in 2011 when MediaCity first opened for business. This time he’s back in MediaCity to help shape its future direction and take us on a trip down memory lane.

With a background that includes top roles at BBC Studios, BBC Sport, Channel 4, Granada Television and Banijay, he's one of the most influential people in broadcasting.

He describes to us the "fun" of bringing the BBC up to the North of England, the challenges they faced, not least the constant barrage of tabloid headlines criticising the move.

As a younger producer, as BBC Bristol, he also had a hand in another major show, as he persuaded the BBC to sign up a young animator, called Nick Park. It meant Aardman and Nick Park ended up at the BBC with their hit show Wallace and Gromit.

Lancashire born and bred, Peter also explains why he's such a supporter of the North of England and the next phase of media and technology.

Hosted by Stephen Chapman of 39 Pictures. The podcast is produced for MediaCity in partnership with the University of Salford, with recent graduates producing the series.

Production team - Meg Bond, Tegan Easton, Akeila Hewitt, James Young, Amelia Husselbee.

Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
