This week on True Crime New England, Katie and Liz bring you the tragic story of a mother and son who were found dead in a fiery car crash just 500 feet from their home in Thornton, New Hampshire. Janet Dow and her son Stephen were found burnt beyond recognition on a December 1982 morning, and with the story that husband and stepfather Richard Dow gave, police believed the whole thing was just an extremely tragic accident. As a result, no investigation was performed, and the bodies were cremated with no autopsies. It wasn’t until 1993 when an ex-girlfriend of Richard’s came forward to local police and told a whole new story that would show the car accident was really no accident at all.
