Throughout the 1970s, he preyed on Western backpackers across South and Southeast Asia, befriending them as a gem trader or drug dealer before drugging, robbing, and murdering them—often discarding their bodies in remote beaches or burned remains, some still wearing swimwear. He’s suspected in over 20 killings but was convicted of 12
He escaped major charges and even juggled multiple prison terms—serving years in India and later being convicted in Nepal in 2004 and 2014 for murders in Kathmandu Even in custody, his manipulative nature shone—marrying a lawyer from behind bars—until Nepal’s Supreme Court released him in December 2022 due to age and health concerns. He’s now living in France
