Over the course of our conversation you will hear us talk about what we think this movie touched on and how it spoke to audiences at the time, how we argue if it is a space survival thriller or a disaster movie and how much of this movie's success is owed to Tom Hanks and his post-Oscar clout. We also talk about the allure of procedural authenticity, the genius of encapsulating complex science within simple visual ideas, and the body horror of having three men locked for a week in a box the size of a phone booth.
