#16 - What Happened to Ronald Bax?
Manage episode 358855760 series 3288720
Ronald Bax was the last known person connected to the tragic murder of Krystal Senyk, a vibrant 29-year-old musician and beloved community member from Carcross, Yukon. On March 1, 1992, Krystal was found shot to death in her home. Authorities quickly identified Bax, an obsessive and possessive man with a violent history, as the prime suspect. However, by the time police arrived, he had vanished without a trace.
Krystal had become a target of Bax’s jealousy after she befriended his estranged wife. Bax, known for his controlling behavior, couldn’t handle the rejection and the sense that Krystal was a threat to his fractured relationship. In the days leading up to the murder, Krystal confided in friends that she feared for her safety. Despite her concerns, the small-town nature of Carcross and the lack of protective measures at the time left her vulnerable.
The murder itself was brutal. Bax allegedly entered her home and shot her at close range. Witnesses reported seeing his vehicle near her house shortly before the discovery of her body, but by the time police pieced together the evidence, Bax had already disappeared. His car was later found abandoned, leading investigators to believe he had fled into the vast northern wilderness.
For over three decades, Ronald Bax has remained a fugitive. Some believe he took his own life in the wilderness, and his body was never recovered. Others suggest he managed to escape the Yukon and start a new life under an assumed identity. One of the more compelling theories revolves around a man named Barry Spencer Clark—a name linked to Bax through witness sightings and circumstantial evidence. Clark died in 2006, but the connection between him and Bax has never been conclusively proven.
The case has garnered renewed attention in recent years, particularly with the release of the upcoming book I Got a Name - The Murder of Krystal Senyk by Eliza Robertson and Myles Dolphin. The book sheds new light on the case, exploring the complexities of the investigation, the failures in protecting Krystal, and the lingering mystery of Bax’s whereabouts.
Despite the passage of time, Krystal's friends and family have never given up hope for justice. The RCMP continues to list Bax as a wanted individual, and sightings have occasionally trickled in, though none have been confirmed.
Was Ronald Bax able to evade capture and live out the rest of his life under a false identity? Or did the unforgiving Yukon wilderness claim his life shortly after the crime? Join us on Unsolved Canadian Mysteries as we delve into the details of this haunting case, the unanswered questions, and the enduring search for the truth.
Additional information about the murder can be read in the upcoming book "I Got a Name - The Murder of Krystal Senyk" by Eliza Robertson and Myles Dolphin.
