The world is abuzz with excitement and worry about Artifical IntelligenceI and the human future. Perhaps the best exploration I’ve heard of AI comes not from a technological or social point of view, but from a mythological one.

What is the deeper meaning of humans creating something that might eclipse them in the future? Why are we driven to do this? More pointedly, after the Sorcerer’s Apprentice summons forth magical forces he can’t control, what happens when there’s no master Sorcerer to come fix the mess he’s created?

One of my favorite podcasts is The Emerald by Joshua Schrei, which explores contemporary issues from a mythological lens.

The episode So You Want to Be a Sorcerer in the Age of Mythic Powers on AI was so engrossing I listened to it five times. So, it only seemed natural to have a conversation with him when I was invited to participate in the AI & Your Life summit last year.

Below is the link to the original Emerald episode that inspired me to connect with Joshua. I think you will find it deeply thought-provoking.
