The Band of Brothers Shakespeare Company is presenting "The Merry Wives of Windsor" this July! Actors Paul Mastovich, Christina Hostetler, and Doug Meagher, discuss the famous play and the characters they play in it. Paul plays Dr. Caius, a comically exaggerated French suitor. Christina plays Mistress Alice Ford, who Sir John Falstaff attempts to woo in order to gain her wealth. Doug plays Master Ford, Alice Ford's jealous husband, who doesn't take the wooing too kindly. Thankfully, the women discover Sir Falstaff's plan, and devise elaborate tricks to humiliate him. All three talk about the play's relevance today, as the themes of love, jealousy, and deception are still relatable to a modern audience. The play is funny, fast-paced, and of course, filled with physical comedy. The three highlight that the company is volunteer-based, with everyone joining in for fun after their jobs during the day. Laura and Bradford Gordon first founded the company in Stackhouse Park 34 years ago. Lastly, Doug recites the most famous line of the play, "Better three hours too soon than a minute too late". The set is in the style of a 1950s sitcom, similar to that of "I Love Lucy". All three recommend their favorite restaurants near StackHouse Park in Johnstown. You can see The Band of Brothers Shakespeare Company perform "The Merry Wives of Windsor" at the Stackhouse Park Main Pavilion at 7 pm from July 10th-12th and 16th-19th. Parking is available at the Westmont Elementary School. Visit https://www.bandofbrothersshakespeareco.org/upcoming-season.html to learn more.
