In the first episode of our Noisy Spirits series, we begin our exploration of the poltergeist phenomenon.
Beginning with a ninth century case in Bavaria, we can see the impact that poltergeists can have on an individual. We started here because it is the first poltergeist case on official record!
We then fast forward a millennium to Turin where Cesare Lombroso used science in solving a poltergeist eruption. Through scientific observation and experimentation, the case was solved in a few short weeks. This case helped to solidify the notion of person-centeredness, not place-centeredness during a poltergeist manifestation. This paranormal knowledge helped to inform the scientific investigation of poltergeist cases going forward.
Finally, we wrap up with an introduction to some modern theory about poltergeists, including the term Recurrent Spontaneous Psychokinesis (RSPK) which will become a much more important term in future episodes in this series.
You can find the book resources for this series here.
This episode was researched, written and produced by me, Tim Woolworth. The audio wizardy is courtesy of our engineer, and fellow explorer of the unknown, Joshua Sean at Zero-G ITC. Hopefully our efforts made a little bit of our paranormal world more normal for you.
