To many, these three chapters are some of the most troubling in all of Bible. In our passage today there are three big ideas at play: morality, idolatry & fidelity. These three big ideas lead to five philosophical questions we must unflinchingly answer. In regards to morality the question is “How can a good God call for the annihilation of the Canaanite people?” To put it more pointedly “How can a God who calls for genocide be our moral guide?” The next topic that crops up is idolatry.
