The dead don't usually testify at their own murder trials, but in the smoke-stained alleys of Chicago, I learned that some victims refuse to let their killers walk free — even from beyond the grave. Watch the VIDEO VERSION of this episode: https://weirddarkness.com/noir-selfsolvingmurder THE TRUE CRIME CASE THIS STORY IS BASED ON: In 1977, Teresita Basa, a 48-year-old respiratory therapist in Chicago, was found murdered in her burned-out apartment. Months later, police received a bizarre tip from a man claiming his wife, Remy Chua — who had briefly worked with Basa — was channeling messages from Basa’s ghost during trances. According to the spirit, she had been murdered by a coworker named Allan Showery, who then staged the scene and stole her jewelry. Investigators followed the supernatural lead and discovered many details matched real evidence. Showery’s girlfriend even confirmed he had given her Basa’s jewelry. Confronted with mounting proof, Showery confessed to the crime. Despite the strange nature of the case, Teresita Basa became known as “the woman who solved her own murder from beyond the grave. (Dark Mass) *** If you were to drive from New York to Sacramento, California, it would take you close to 45-hours, non-stop. If you were to fly? That strips off 40 of those hours – it’d only take you about five hours to fly from New York to California. But one person did it even faster than that… almost instantaneously. (The Mysterious Case of the Teleporting Skier) *** A simple case of a man making angry threats at another man who had made a pass at his wife goes to court – and that’s when and where it gets really ugly, murderously so. (Disorder In The Court) *** A man finds out that you don’t necessarily have to believe in ghosts in order to be terrified by them. (The Ghosts of Crosbie Towers) *** Reports are pouring in from all over the world with people claiming to have had an encounter with a Shadow Person. PLEASE SHARE THIS EPISODE in your social media so others who love strange and macabre stories can listen too! https://weirddarkness.com/listen HOUR ONE: It could be everyone’s ultimate fear. Not death… but being buried before death. Buried alive. It’s not just a trope of horror cinema and novels, it has truly happened on a few occasions – and we’ll hear stories from a few people who were buried alive, but survived to tell the tale. (I Was Buried Alive) *** But first… Reddit users share their own personal tales of how they became believers in ghosts and the paranormal. We’ll begin with those stories. (How I Came To Believe) ========== HOUR TWO: A Weirdo family member relays a terrifying story of what is described as “El Nahual” in Mexico – a shapeshifter, that her dad barely escaped from! (El Nahual In The Avocado Grove) *** John George Haigh took the plunge into murder when he knocked out his old boss and dumped the body into acid – then set out to kill again. (Acid Bath Murderer) *** Only two percent of the population can hear it. A persistent, maddening sound that science has no explanation for, and the hearers have dubbed it, “The Hum”. (The Hum) *** The Tromp family fled their farm in 2016. There is still no explanation as to why, and one police officer calls it “the most bizarre case” he has ever seen. (The Tromp Family Fleeing) *** In Chatham County, North Carolina there is a 40-foot wide circle in the wilderness where absolutely nothing grows. Not only can scientists not explain it, but some believe Satan himself is responsible. (The Devil’s Tramping Ground)========== SUDDEN DEATH OVERTIME: The circumstances of wrestling coach John du Pont’s bizarre crimes were portrayed in the critically acclaimed true crime drama film, Foxcatcher. Steve Carell was lauded for his performances as John du Pont, and the film was nominated for five Academy Awards. But how true is the film compared to the actual events? (The Macomb Firestarter) *** Two men interested in the same woman – all three spending a day together. Not a good plan from the start. Add a bit of alcohol and you just may have a powder keg ready to explode. (Rum, Jealously, and Murder) *** Over the course of just two years, Christopher Duntsch operated on 38 patients in the Dallas area, leaving 31 paralyzed or seriously injured and two of them dead. It’s no wonder he was given the morbid nickname of “Dr. Death”. (Doctor Death) *** A child’s game of hide-and-seek turns to terror. (The House At The Front) *** In the Outback of Queensland, Australia, ghostly orbs of light have been frightening people for centuries. What do we know about the mystery of the orbs and what are some of the theories about what they could be? (The Min Min Orbs) *** Are extraterrestrials secretly watching over us and saving us from our own destruction? (Our Alien Protectors) *** When Jeffrey Dampier won the lottery, he thought he finally had it all. Little did he know that someone was about to take everything from him. (No Good Deed Goes Unpunished) *** They found Annie stretched out on the floor with a pistol lying by her hand. There was no sign of a struggle and nothing had been taken; they could only conclude that Annie had taken her own life. But is that really what happened? (The Annie Dorman Mystery) *** When you think of seeing a ghost, you almost automatically envision an ethereal being, in flowing white – like that of a woman in a wedding dress. And that might make sense, seeing as there are a lot of dead brides-to-be floating around America. (Til Death: Ghost Brides of the United States) *** You’ve seen them on the outside of large gothic buildings and massive churches. Their stone faces and menacing presence can be unsettling to some. But what are the purpose of gargoyles? (In The Protection of Gargoyles) *** Were Betty and Barney Hill actually visited and even abducted by aliens in 1961, or was it an outlandish story just to get attention?
