The pharmaceutical industry makes billions while mental health patients suffer through an ineffective revolving door system of short-term care. When examining how mental health institutions operate, a disturbing pattern emerges—patients cycle through 60-day stays where they're heavily medicated, then released back into society regardless of their ability to function independently. Diving into the medications routinely administered, we uncover the shocking side effects behind commonly prescribed antipsychotics like Quetiapine (Seroquel). While pharmaceutical giants like AstraZeneca report market capitalizations exceeding $200 billion, patients face risks including irreversible movement disorders, heart rhythm abnormalities, and even increased mortality rates. The most disturbing revelation? Many of these medications mask symptoms temporarily without addressing underlying conditions—essentially tranquilizing patients until their insurance-covered stay expires. What if we reimagined mental health care entirely? I propose community-based facilities designed specifically for those deemed unfit to function in mainstream society—places offering varying levels of supervision, medical care, social support, and as much independence as safely possible. Rather than treating humans with serious mental illness as disposable or as profit centers, we could create environments where they receive continuous, compassionate care while researchers work to better understand and address root causes of different mental health conditions. The rising rates of mental illness diagnoses demand a new approach—one centered on human dignity rather than pharmaceutical profits or administrative convenience. It's time to transform how we support our most vulnerable citizens and prevent the tragedies that occur when serious mental illness goes untreated. The mental healthcare crisis in America demands our immediate attention. We're witnessing a disturbing pattern where individuals with documented histories of serious mental illness cycle through brief institutional stays, only to be released back into society without adequate support systems—often with devastating consequences. Common reasons for institutionalization (multiple sources): – Severe depression – Suicidal behavior, thoughts, or threats – Schizophrenia – Hallucinations or delusions – Lack of sleep or food intake for several days – Severe substance abuse issues – Inability to meet basic needs like eating or bathing – Ineffective response to previous medications and therapies Source 1: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10338701/pdf/10.1177_00207640221143282.pdf In summary, this article explores the recent change (over last several decades) in treatment pf psychiatric patients from long term hospitalization to short-terms stays and/or outpatient services. Noteworthy points/findings: -"Revolving door" (RD) treatments tend to impact a patient group that is younger, single, unemployed, of low education level (less than a high school degree), and with diagnosis of a psychotic disorder. Many of these characteristics would mark a patient "at risk" and yet they're receiving inadequate revolving door treatment. -This shift to revolving door treatment is partially attributed to improvement in community-based/outpatient services. - Definition of revolving door patients: those patients requiring a large amount of mental health derived resources (20-30%), thought they represent less than 10% of the total number of patients (small populations requiring a sizable amount of service) -The research efforts to specifically identify the factors leading to multiple hospitalizations has been controversial, but these authors offer a systematic review to analyze existing research on the topic and forecast the types of patients who will likely receive RD treatments and risk ongoing rehospitalization. -The studies reviewed in this article have some different and conflicting findings, but there were some common observations : *RD phenomenon is greater in younger age groups (esp among those between 15-45 years old) *No particular gender is associated with RD phenomenon. *No particular ethnicity is associated with RD phenpmeon. *RD treatments seems to occur more frequently in urban areas, as opposed to suburban or rural areas. *RD seems to occur more in single or unmarried patients as opposed to married patients. *It has been commonly noted that family plays a significant role in RD treatments; patients with family conflict often fall into the RD population, where patients with supportive family are more likely to require non-heavy use of psychiatric services. *RD seems to be heavily associated with patients who are unemployed or receiving disability pension. *RD patients were significantly likely to have been diagnosed with schizophrenia, personality disorder, or alcohol/substance abuse Source 2: Send us a text We want to hear from you, Introduce yourself the way you would like it aired, where your calling from State and City is fine as well as which Season, Podcast title and episode. What if Elon Musk is quietly orchestrating a groundbreaking drone project right under our noses? Join me, OG GOAT, as I unravel my captivating theory about the mysterious Drone Watch 2024. With a curious blend of facts and conjecture, I propose that Musk, with his SpaceX heroics and affinity for autonomous tech, might be testing massive drones over New York and New Jersey. Imagine these drones paving the way for Amazon's delivery future or even possessing warfare capabilities. It's a theory spiced with intrigue and speculation that you won't find elsewhere. Our journey takes us into the heart of why these locations are prime for such clandestine operations. From the bustling financial pulse of New York City to New Jersey's industrial prowess and proximity to major airports, the stage is set for major drone innovation. Could this be a quiet collaboration between Musk and the government, rewarding him for his space rescue feats? Tune in to explore these tantalizing possibilities and see if my theory holds weight against the whispers in the sky. And if you think you've got a better story, I'm all ears. What happens when your healthcare safety net becomes a web of confusion and denial? Drawing from a personal experience fraught with misdiagnosed pain and unexpected hospital visits, I unravel the hidden influence of insurance companies on critical medical decisions. After multiple trips to the emergency room, a diagnosis of gallstones finally emerged, but not before raising questions about the role of insurers in delaying necessary care. This episode also reflects on the recent passing of UnitedHealthcare's CEO, sparking a timely conversation about the often unseen impact of insurance policies on our health outcomes. We tackle the harsh reality faced by many who believe they're covered only to find themselves unprotected when it matters most. The emotional exhaustion and uncertainty caused by inadequate coverage demand immediate attention. We urgently call for transparency and accountability from healthcare insurers, recognizing the weight this bears on grieving families. By spotlighting the prevalence of insurance fraud and the need for clarity in coverage, we encourage listeners to examine their options closely, ensuring their healthcare plans truly serve their intended purpose. Prepare to rethink your approach to healthcare coverage and join us in advocating for honest and reliable insurance practices. Did the Democrats lose the presidential election by focusing too much on personality politics? We explore this critical question and dissect the fascinating dynamics of the recent election victory of Donald Trump. The episode uncovers the strategic missteps of the Democratic Party, who seemed more concerned with attacking Trump’s character than presenting a compelling vision for the country. By doing so, they missed an opportunity to connect with potential voters, including felons who might align with their values. Trump's simple yet powerful "Make America Great Again" message resonated with voters, providing a stark contrast to the Democrats' muddled strategy — a stark reminder of the importance of clear and consistent messaging in political campaigns. Winning involves more than just participation, and our discussion today emphasizes entering political races with the earnestness and strategy needed for success. Both Republicans and Democrats can learn from recent setbacks, similar to losing a championship game, and use these experiences as fuel for future victories. We express disappointment in the Democrats' recent performance, urging political players to maintain focus and determination. Ending on a motivational note, we encourage our listeners to view setbacks as stepping stones to success, reminding everyone that resilience and persistence are key to overcoming challenges and excelling in any endeavor. What if we've been celebrating a holiday based on a false narrative? Join me, OG Goat, as we tackle the curious case of dueling holidays: Indigenous Peoples Day and Columbus Day. These two observances, sharing the same date in the United States, offer a fascinating glimpse into the clash of historical narratives and the cultural implications that come with them. As we unravel this puzzling overlap, I invite you to question the stories we've been told and consider which holiday might hold more truth. With a nod to those who suggest an Italian Day alternative, we ponder if a reevaluation of our historical celebrations is overdue. Throughout our lively discussion, I raise some eyebrow-raising questions and challenge the conventional wisdom of these holidays. Can we truly celebrate a day honoring Columbus when history tells us Indigenous peoples were here long before? And what does it say about us if we don't correct these historical inaccuracies? Join me as I encourage you to choose your holiday wisely and reflect on what these observances mean for our understanding of America's past. With humor and candor, we navigate the complexities of truth, history, and cultural recognition in what promises to be an enlightening conversation. What if the notion that black men won’t support a black woman for president is a myth? Join me as I challenge this controversial belief, offering a fresh perspective on former President Obama's remarks. I passionately argue that black men are ready to back a capable black woman 100%, provided she's doing the right thing. Our discourse often gets overshadowed by Trump's antics, but it's time to refocus on real issues—crafting a robust plan for marginalized communities and retirees. My goal is to steer the conversation toward empowering political dialogue and meaningful actions that truly matter. In a candid exploration of admiration turned sour, I share a personal journey of disillusionment with a once-revered black leader who now seems to have betrayed the hopes of his supporters. It’s a narrative familiar to many, capturing the collective disappointment of those who once believed in this figure's promise. This emotional recount sets the stage for a deeper conversation in future episodes, as we seek to rebuild trust and spotlight leaders poised to deliver inclusive solutions for all Americans. Join me for a thought-provoking session that not only challenges existing perceptions but also pushes for positive political engagement.
