Read, Donate, Repeat: How Dothan's Libraries Get a Boost
Manage episode 486714354 series 3483802
Wiregrass Daily News spoke with Everlie Bolton, president of the Friends of the Library, about how this dedicated volunteer group supports Dothan’s public libraries through donations, fundraising, and outreach. The Friends accept gently used books, magazines, puzzles, and games, which are sold at local libraries and the Friends Bookstore at 1314 Westgate Parkway. The store offers new selections every Tuesday and Thursday, with all proceeds supporting library programs and services. Their largest event of the year, the Big Book Sale, runs August 14–24 at the Westgate Rec Gym. Members get early access on August 14. The public is welcome from August 15–24, with all remaining books free on the final day. Most items are affordably priced. In addition to raising funds, the Friends encourage community members to visit the library, attend programs, and check out materials—simple ways to help keep Dothan’s libraries strong.
