Episode 14: Ancestral Rhythms: Decolonizing the Modern Calendar

Summary: In this episode, Kristal and Kate discuss the made up concept of time and how we can step outside Western society’s version of it.

Intro & Invocation (0:00-5:19)

Kate outlines the role time plays personally and in society. She and Kristal chat about the Mandela Effect and Einstein’s Theory of Relativity and quantum physics. (5:20-14:29)

Kate lays out the history of time keeping on this planet. Our main types of calendars are solar, lunar and luni-solar and our calendars are usually agricultural, celestial or political. (5:21-22:15)

The two share their personal practices around their own calendars ranging from when they start their personal years and important landmarks through their years. Kate shares that going forward, she’s starting her months at the new moon in an undated calendar. Kristal marks important birthdays and milestones of both the living and dead. (22:16-32:20)
