Energy Costs Now ‘Main Issue’ For US Ally That Barred Nuclear Power

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said high energy costs are the most critical economic issue for her country
Italy has embraced green energy and enacted a ban on nuclear power that has lasted nearly 40 years, though the nation’s Council of Ministers and Meloni have recently moved to reintroduce the technology, joining other European countries like Belgium, Denmark and Germany that are also reconsidering their turns away from nuclear power. Emanuele Orsini — the head of Italy’s largest business lobby — called for Meloni to cut energy costs and pave the way for a return to nuclear energy at the annual assembly for Confindustria, where Meloni again acknowledged her country’s energy problems, Reuters reported.
“Our companies continue to suffer from an energy (price) surcharge of more than 35% over the European average, even reaching peaks of 80% when compared to the largest European countries,” Orsini said at the assembly, according to Reuters.
Meloni has expressed support for expanding nuclear energy in Italy, as have other officials, including the Minister of Environment and Energy Security Gilberto Pichetto Fratin.

US Consumers Now More Optimistic, Ending 5 Straight Months Of Decline In Confidence Index

U.S. consumer confidence bounced back in May ending five straight months of decline and beating economists’ expectations.
The Consumer Confidence Index increased by 12.3 points in May to 98.0, up from 85.7 in April, according to a report released Tuesday by The Conference Board. This notably marked the first increase in consumer confidence in five months.
The Conference Board’s Present Situation Index, which is based on consumers’ outlook on current business and job market conditions, increased 4.8 points in May to 135.9. Meanwhile, the Expectations Index, which is based on consumers’ short-term outlook for income, business and job market conditions, jumped 17.4 points to 72.8 in the same month.

As The New York Post reported, Francesca Gino, a renowned behavioral scientist at Harvard Business School, was fired and stripped of tenure after the school’s top governing board discovered she manipulated data in four studies to ensure that findings would boost her hypotheses. Harvard refused to detail the specific reason for the decision, but this marked the first time since the 1940s that a professor at Harvard had their tenure revoked, which is when rules for academic protection at the school were formalized according to the Harvard Crimson.
Ironically, Gino’s work focused on honesty and ethical behavior. The Harvard Crimson reveals that she was a celebrated researcher in her field and the fifth-highest paid employee at Harvard in 2018 and 2019. Overall, she received more than $1 million in compensation each year.

NPR and PBS Stations Sue Trump Administration for Cutting Their Federal Funding

Well, you knew this HAD to happen.
After President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order banning the (federal) funding of NPR and PBS stations, the rubber was going to meet the road.

NPR said it would aggressively challenge the executive order and PBS said it was exploring its options. Congress allocated $535 million for the CPB for fiscal year 2025. Most of the funding for the PBS and NPR comes from other sources.
The White House said in a statement on Friday that PBS and NPR receive tens of millions of dollars in taxpayer funds each year to spread “radical, woke propaganda disguised as ‘news’.”

Kiev’s actions harming peace process – Kremlin

Over the past week alone, Russian air defenses have downed 1,465 Ukrainian drones over territories outside the active conflict zone, the Defense Ministry in Moscow reported on Tuesday.
The Russian Defense Ministry stated on Tuesday that the “Kiev regime, supported by certain European countries, has taken a number of provocative steps aimed at disrupting the negotiation process,” which was initiated by Moscow earlier in May.
According to the ministry, there has been a spike in Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory involving drones as well as Western-made missiles. Military officials in Moscow estimated that between May 20 and May 27, air defense systems intercepted more than 2,300 Ukrainian UAVs, most of them operating outside frontline areas.
The ministry added that Russian forces retaliated with high-precision missile and drone strikes aimed “exclusively at Ukraine’s military and defense industrial facilities.”

According to the Justice Department: Joseph Neumayer, a dual U.S. and German citizen was arrested at John F. Kennedy International Airport by FBI special agents and a complaint was unsealed in the Eastern District of New York charging Neumayer with attempting to destroy, by means of fire or explosive, the Branch Office of the United States Embassy located in Tel Aviv, Israel.
“As alleged in the complaint, Neumayer arrived in Israel in April 2025. On May 19, Neumeyer, 28, arrived outside of the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv carrying a dark-colored backpack. Without provocation Neumeyer spit on an Embassy guard as he walked past. Neumeyer managed to break free as the guard attempted to detain him, leaving behind his backpack. A search of Neumeyer’s backpack revealed three rudimentary improvised incendiary devices commonly known as Molotov cocktails. Law enforcement tracked Neumeyer to his hotel, where he was arrested.

Only SCOTUS Can Rein In The Judicial Coup

One could reasonably argue that the judges entering these orders are essentially attempting to undo the results of the last election by keeping in place Biden administration policies — policies that more than 77 million voters roundly rejected last November. These judges apparently believe they have more authority than the president to make decisions on everything from domestic and foreign policy to matters affecting national security and the military.
The Supreme Court should vigorously enforce its prior precedents (including its 1984 decision in U.S. v. Mendoza), which strictly limit the ability of a single unelected district court judge (of whom there are nearly 700) to keep the administration from achieving its policy objectives by ruling not just for those who filed a lawsuit but also for everyone who didn’t.
The court must also end the blatant judge-shopping and what amounts to a collective wholesale interference in the president’s constitutional authority as head of the executive branch.
