The Magic, Art & Myth of Plants w/ Artist Kevin Jay Stanton
Manage episode 466014848 series 3551679
In this episode, I talk with artist and illustrator Kevin Jay Stanton, creator of the Botanica Tarot, a deck comprised of 78 gorgeous paintings depicting a different plant for each archetype. Kevin's work on this deck included extensive research into the natural history, cultural associations, and mythologies associated with each plant, and these are included in the guidebook to inform the seeker's experience with the cards.
Kevin is currently working on a companion oracle deck, Full Bloom, which features 33 cards that reflect different plant relationships, specifically those with pollinators, nectar robbers, and seed carriers. The two decks can be used together to deepen and expand the divination experience.
In this conversation, Kevin shares about his lifelong relationship with plants, how he came to embrace art as his passion and full-time work, a couple naysayers he's encountered on the journey, and how his work on these two decks represent a powerful expression of himself as an artist and as a human in relationship with the natural world.
With spring around the corner (in the Northern Hemisphere), it's a beautiful time to tune in with the energy and magic of plants. I hope you enjoy!
You can learn more about Kevin's work on his website here, on Instagram here. You can support the Full Bloom Kickstarter here, and preorder Full Bloom or purchase the Botanica deck at Beehive books here.
