If left unchecked, codependency can be a vicious cycle - wreaking havoc on yourself and the relationships you value the most. Putting your basic wants and needs aside for that of others is not a “surface-level” issue. When you go deeper, you can say that positioning yourself as overly friendly or flexible (significantly when it doesn’t benefit you) is rooted in trauma.
