Ep #50: Knowing your capacity to avoid mompreneur burnout

It’s time for some real talk about capacity. In this episode, I walk you through the exact formula I use with clients to calculate how much focused time you actually have, so you can stop piling on tasks and start making intentional decisions that support work-life balance for moms and freedom for mompreneurs. This is the key to building a business without burnout, and it starts with the right mindset for time management as a mompreneur.

In this episode you will learn:

  • The step-by-step formula I use to calculate true work capacity (and how I used it when bringing this podcast back)
  • Why knowing your available hours is essential before adding a new offer, client, or project
  • How to make room for more money, joy, or margin without spiraling into burnout
  • Why “fluff work” is silently killing your productivity (and what to do about it)

Here is the formula for quick reference:

  1. Write down the number of FOCUSED WORK HOURS you have each week. This is the time when you know you’re going to be zoned in on work with minimal distractions (Think: when kids are in school, getting up early/staying up late, weekend blocks, days at a coffee shop, days you have specifically blocked for work.
  2. Estimate/Write down the total number of HOURS YOU ALREADY HAVE ACCOUNTED FOR (content creation, client work, calls, writing and scheduling emails, etc.). If you’re estimating, it’s better to guess OVER the amount if you aren’t sure.
  3. Subtract the “HOURS YOU ALREADY HAVE ACCOUNTED FOR” number from “FOCUSED WORK HOURS” number.
  4. Example: If you have a total of 20 focused hours you will subtract that from the 15 hours that are already accounted for.
Now, write down how many hours you have left: —----
(In the example that would be 5)
Now, multiple that by 4 (ave 4 weeks per month) = ____
(In the example, that would be 20)
Subtract 6 (this is 6 hours of random stuff that you cannot prepare for)
    20-6 = 14
Now how much time is left? _____
Whatever that number is = the time you have for “extra” stuff – whether that is business ideas you want to implement like: starting a podcast, taking on another client, building out your new offer, etc.
Or time for personal things like: reading more, date nights, starting to go to a workout class, cooking at home more, whatever that is for you.
