On this episode of CommonVoice, host Jamie Reilly sits down with Rebecca Alper, assistant professor of communication sciences and disorders at Temple University, to discuss her work in early childhood language development. Dr. Reilly and Dr. Alper discuss one of the big challenges for intervention work with young children: the delay in seeing the rewards of such work and how critical it is to improving health.

Licensed as a speech-language pathologist, Dr. Alper also has graduate training in biostatistics and is an active researcher. She combines her love of clinical work in child language development with her interest in improving language, academic and health outcomes of at-risk children through family-centered early language and literacy intervention. Learn more about Dr. Alper’s lab at sites.temple.edu/langlitlearnlab.

CommonVoice features original music by Dylan Band and cover art by Sam Hobson.
