Hi there
Currently, your UK employment rights only recognises the loss of a baby after 24 weeks, as a stillbirth - granting parents up to 56 weeks of maternity leave. But for earlier child losses which affect 1 in 4 pregnancies, parents have had no employment rights - and that is about to change.
In this week’s episode, we look a the new ‘Miscarriage Bereavement Leave’ employment rights, which the government is proposing to bring online in 2026 – and why this is a positive move for working parents.
It's our view, that the more you are able to acquaint yourself with your employment rights in this area, the more your rights will act as an early warning system, which you can use to spot bad treatment or illegal treatment that you may be suffering at work. If you need help to formulate your complaint you can download a copy of our ‘Complaints Checklist’ here.
