We’re hearing more conversations now than ever about systemic racism and other sources of inequities in not only our communities, but also in higher education. Engineering education is no exception. In this episode, Dr. Monica Cox and I have a very frank discussion about the experiences of Blacks in engineering education. We delve into topics such as the need for advocates and allies who are not threatened by the possibility of losing their privilege, being labeled an angry Black woman, and the importance of being able to speak truth to power. We also spend a bit of time discussing media as a tool for change.
