In today's episode of Flourishing Unfiltered, we speak with Shona Vertue!

Shona is an ex-elite gymnast turned certified personal trainer and yoga teacher and shares her journey from gymnastics to becoming a fitness influencer and aspiring sports psychologist. Shona opens up about the challenges of balancing multiple roles, dealing with self-doubt, and finding strategies to overcome guilt. She talks about the importance of time blocking to stay focused and present in different areas of life.

We also discuss the impact of technology on boundaries and the need for self-care and managing time effectively. Shona shares her personal struggles with boundary-setting and how she has learned to prioritise her own needs. We also get a glimpse behind her decision to go back to school and study psychology to better understand human behavior and help her clients.

Shona highlights the importance of being motivated by intrinsic goals rather than external aesthetics and advises her younger self to not be afraid of what others think and to be selective in giving power to people's opinions.

Shona is an ex-elite gymnast turned certified personal trainer and yoga teacher with nearly half a million followers on Instagram alone and one of the most popular yoga channels on YouTube. Shona's Vertue Method combines weighted resistance training and cardio with her life-long passions - yoga and meditation – and is now practised in over 65 countries around the world by thousands of people. She encourages her clients (who include none other than David Beckham btw) and fans alike to acquire new skills whilst training, and to play and have fun rather than focus on aesthetic goals and punishing routines.

Shona has lived between London and Sydney for many years, has the cutest squish of a baby daughter, Ayana, and makes me jealous frequently with the delicious meals she gets spoiled with by her partner Justin Wong. Oh and because having a baby, currently a mom to care for, and being a fulltime fitness influencer apparently barely fills your diary, she’s now also a sports psychology graduate, and host of The Vertue Podcast, in which she uses a biopsychosocial lens, to traverse through the intricate pathways of what it truly means to be well.
