Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a German pastor during the Nazi regime and one of the few openly resisted them while they were in power. He called out corruption and joined the resistance group conspiring against Hitler. Dietrich Bonhoeffer wasn’t just some guy behind a pulpit; he risked his life, and lived out what he preached about sacrifice and justice. He coined the term ā€œCostly Graceā€, essentially meaning that real faith costs something and takes real sacrifice. Dietrich often compared it to ā€˜cheap grace’, which he described as that comfortable, convenient faith that asks nothing of us. While Dietrich's life ended in a concentration camp, the impact he had around those around him was profound. Let's see how he become the Christian giant we know today.

"Christian biography combines all sorts of things we need but have so little time to pursue. It is history and guards us against chronological snobbery. It is also theology because it comes from the lives of people like us. It is also adventure and suspense, for which we have a natural hunger. It is psychology and personal experience, which deepen our understanding of human nature. Good biographies of great Christians make for remarkably efficient reading." - John Piper on Desiring God
