Ukrainian forces attacked the Marinovka airfield in Russia’s Volgograd region with long-range drones in the early hours of June 27, striking four Su-34 aircraft and a technical maintenance facility, according to Ukraine's military leadership. Officials said the extent of damage is still being assessed.

Ukraine’s Security Service, which also participated in the operation, stated that two Su-34 aircraft were destroyed during the attack, with two others damaged. The attack caused a fire at the airfield’s maintenance facility, where Russian warplanes are serviced and repaired.

“Russian Su-34s are the main tactical aviation aircraft that carry out missile and bombing strikes against Ukrainian positions and populated areas,” noted Ukraine’s General Staff.

At the time of this writing, Russian officials have not acknowledged the attack or commented on Ukrainian news reports. Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported shooting down 13 Ukrainian drones in the Volgograd region before dawn on June 27. Governor Andrey Bocharov stated that the drones targeted the Surovikinsky and Kalachevsky districts, as well as the city of Volzhsky. Officials temporarily halted traffic on a bridge in the Kalachevsky district for cleanup operations. The Marinovka airfield is located in the Volgograd region’s Kalachevsky district.
