ROSIE MEEK ON THE NEW GOVERNMENTS’ PROPOSED PRISON REFORM AND THE IMPORTANCE OF SPORTS INTIATIVES IN PRISONS

For the final episode of this series of the #MondayMile podcast, I’m joined by a very special guest, Professor of Forensic Psychology and my yoga buddy Rosie Meek!

Rosie is an incredibly impressive woman, from working with the United Nations to demonstrating the value of sport interventions in preventing youth crime, using sport as a tool for good.

We discuss how increasing sports initiatives in prisons and in youth centres will not only help to prevent crime but will improve the mental and physical wellbeing of those who are incarcerated.

We take a deep dive into the new governments’ intentions for prison reform, discussing how it’s an opportunity to reduce the pressure on prisons to allow for more educational and therapeutic programs that can lead to fewer instances of reoffending and safer communities.

Hearing Rosie discuss the problems with the prison system today and how we can use sport initiatives to improve the system was so fascinating and I hope all you Monday Mile listeners will agree!
