Manage episode 485168049 series 2576057
The Department of Justice has confirmed to Ocean FM this morning that they have not received an offer of international protection accommodation in relation to a property situated on Church Street in Drumshanbo.
The building in question which was previously used as a Hostel and Restaurant was recently placed on the market.
A query was made in connection with the building to Leitrim County Council enquiring if its use could be changed from providing accommodation as a Hostel to providing accommodation for protected people.
It’s understood that Leitrim County Council have requested further information from the person that submitted the inquiry. It’s also not known if the person that submitted the query owns the building.
Drumshanbo based Councillor Brendan Barry in reacting to the statement from the Department of justice says the fact that an inquiry was made with made the Local Authority in relation to future uses for the building has led to speculation intensifying locally as to what the future holds for the building known locally as ‘Doherty’s Hall’.
The Sinn Fein elected representative says the region is crying out for tourism accommodation.
