The federal government's plan to make Australia a world leader in a new form of renewable energy is facing serious questions after another high-profile green hydrogen project collapsed.

Federal Energy Minister Chris Bowen has conceded the sector is facing 'headwinds' after the $14 billion Central Queensland Hydrogen Project was dumped. It came after the Queensland-owned energy company, Stanwell, withdrew its support for the project.
