Episode 006 Estate Planning Essentials -
Rod Hatley, a former JAG officer, found his calling as an estate planning attorney after he and his sister experienced an expensive and time consuming seven-year probate for his fathers’ estate. When Rod’s father fell ill, Rod tried to get his father to do the estate planning he needed. Unfortunately, his father had a mental block and could not bear the thought of gifting or changing legal title to the assets he spent his life accumulating. In 1995, based on his experience with his father, Rod turned to estate planning so he can help others with the family conversations and the planning that needs to take place to avoid estate taxes and the costs and delays of probate.
