Welcome to The Daily Quote – a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I’m your host, Andrew McGivern, for April 17th. Now, let’s dive into today’s lesser-known but oddly relatable holiday: Blah Blah Blah Day. Yes, that’s really what it’s called. Blah Blah Blah Day is celebrated annually on April 17. It was created in 2006 by Ruth and Thomas Roy with the purpose of encouraging people to listen to and act on the nagging or repeated advice from loved ones, friends, or colleagues.
The day highlights the importance of casual conversations and active listening, recognizing that nagging often stems from emotions such as feeling unheard, seeking connection, or wanting to guide others based on experience Basically, today’s the day for every "Yeah yeah, I’ll get to it" moment. It’s like a cosmic reminder that procrastination eventually catches up… usually when your Wi-Fi password expires. We all have that friend who likes to go on and on about their job or their family - especially after a few drinks. If they worked for the CIA and called you and said, you wouldn't believe the day I've had... And your like well maybe I would but too bad your not allowed to tell me anything! If your like me, none of your friends are actually spies so you get to listen to their complaints and their venting and offer them some supportive words.
Today is also high five day so go ahead and give yourself a celebratory slap of the palm for being a good friend and getting through the blah, blah blah.
Now, let’s bring it all home with the quote of the day, one that ties together the spirit of Blah Blah Blah Day and High Five Day — because sometimes, surviving the nonsense is the victory.
Today's quote comes from Bryant H. McGill, who once said...
"One of the most sincere forms of respect is actually listening to what another has to say."
So, maybe today isn’t just about nagging reminders and unchecked to-do lists. Maybe Blah Blah Blah Day is also your invitation to stop, listen, and be fully present for someone who just needs to vent — even if you are wishing you didn't answer the phone. And if you nailed that — well hey, give yourself a high five. Because it's High Five Day, and being a good listener deserves some serious palm-slapping recognition. That’s it for today. I’ll catch you tomorrow — until then, keep showing up, keep listening, and remember: sometimes, lending an ear is more powerful than giving advice.
I'm Andrew McGivern signing off for today... I’ll catch you tomorrow — same pod time, same pod station, for another Daily Quote.
