Welcome to The Daily Quote – a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, for April 22nd.
Now, if you're glancing out the window this morning and seeing a gloomy sky and a rain-spattered sidewalk, take heart — it’s not just any soggy Tuesday (or whatever day you're listening). It’s April Showers Day. That’s right, a whole day dedicated to drizzle, downpours, and the occasional dramatic thunder storm.
We’re celebrating the rain today — the often-unwelcome guest that barges in when we don't have our umbrella, but quietly makes the flowers bloom.
And on that note, here’s your quote of the day from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, who once said:
"Into each life some rain must fall."
Now, you might be tempted to roll your eyes at this one, especially if your morning commute involved wading through ankle-deep puddles. But Longfellow wasn’t just commenting on the weather. He was reminding us that tough times are part of the package.
Rain, both literal and metaphorical, helps us grow. It nourishes us. Sure, it ruins your hair and makes your socks wet, but it also makes the sunshine feel earned.
And April Showers bring May Flowers.
So if today is a rainy one, maybe lean into it. Grab your favorite mug, listen to the rhythm on the roof, or just splash in a puddle like you’re five again. Let the showers wash away a little of that stress you’ve been carrying.
I remember when I was a kid some of the best times we had was wehn it was pouring rain and we would make little boats and send them down the little river going down the side of the huge hill we used to live on.
Good times... sometimes whether the rain makes your day or ruins your day comes down to your attitude and perspective.
And remember — no rain, no flowers.
Thanks for joining me on The Daily Quote. I'm Andrew McGivern, signing off for today, but I’ll be back tomorrow, same pod time, same pod station with another Daily Quote.
