Welcome to The Daily Quote – a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I’m your host, Andrew McGivern, for April 23rd.
Now, before we launch into today’s quote, let me shine a little spotlight on today's holiday for our Canadian listeners - Canada Book Day. This literary celebration is all about embracing Canadian authors and stories, and promoting reading right here in the Great White North. It’s a perfect day to cozy up with a Margaret Atwood novel, a Leonard Cohen poetry collection, or, if you're feeling adventurous, a graphic novel by Bryan Lee O'Malley.
Of course, given the Trump-era trade war, some folks might joke that Canada Book Day could also be interpreted as “Let’s just read books that didn’t cross the border from the south.” And if you think that little Canada can't have an impact on the giant American economy then you didn't realize that is is also Slay a Dragon Day!!
But hey, whether it's maple-scented pages or not, today is about stories that reflect your world, your voice, and yes—even your spelling of the word “colour.”

And here's where it gets even more interesting. Today is also Impossible Astronaut Day, a nod to Doctor Who fans and that mysterious, mind-bending episode where memory, danger, and time travel get tangled in a way that makes your brain feel like it’s doing gymnastics in zero gravity. Combine that with Slay a Dragon Day—because why not? If you're diving into books and time travel, you might as well face a mythical beast or two while you’re at it.
Which brings us to today’s quote, from the Doctor himself, who once said:
“We're all stories in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?”
Now if that isn’t the most Canadian twist on time travel wisdom, I don’t know what is.
Doctor Who said "eh"
It's a reminder that every day you're adding a page to your own story. Whether you're battling metaphorical dragons, exploring galaxies of imagination in a good book, or just remembering to pick up milk on the way home—you’re writing something that matters.
And speaking of daily stories, today is also National Table Tennis Day, which I accidentally celebrated a day early last night when I found myself in a fierce backyard showdown with the kids.
Now, I don’t want to brag, but I may have pulled off a comeback worthy of a sports documentary—complete with slow-motion replays and triumphant theme music playing in my head. They may say it's just ping pong, but when your eleven-year-old twins smash a shot past you, it's basically emotional warfare.
So today, pick up a Canadian book, slay a dragon—real or imaginary—tip your hat to the Time Lords, and maybe lob a few ping pong balls with someone you love. Whatever you do, just remember: make it a good story.
Until next time, keep turning the pages of your day with intention.
I'm Andrew McGivern, signing off for today, but I'll be back tomorrow, same pod time, same pod station with another Daily Quote.
