This week, Sarah Lyew jumps back into our series on the Gospel of Mark in anticipation of Easter. In chapter 12, Jesus invites us to see how we often miss the point in service of our own power. How is Christ calling us to lay down our individual power and to follow him instead?

Please find the slide deck for this week's teaching here.

Home Church Questions:

1. Who’s your favourite hero (movie/book or in history)? What about them appeals to you?

2. What stood out to you from Sunday's teaching?

3. Read Mark 12:1-12 and Isaiah 5:1-7. What stands out to you from these passages? What similarities to you see?

4. Why do you think the chief priests and teachers of the law held on to their power so tightly?

5. Read Mark 12:28-34 and 12:41-44. What stands out to you from these passages?

6. Why do you think this teacher of the law was close but not quite there? What was missing?

7. What were the differences between the teachers of the law and the widow in these passages? Why do you think Mark would use them as a contrast?

8. Sarah suggested we often don't see the heroes because of their authenticity, their patience, or their wisdom to know when to flee or when to stay quiet. Do you agree? Why do you think that is?

9. Where may Jesus be opening the door for your mite (ie, your 'widow's offering')?

10. Pray with and for one another.
