In this episode, Rich and Kelley Thornton discuss:

  • The influence of Kelley’s mother on his entrepreneurial journey
  • The importance of intentionality in maintaining relationships
  • How small gestures, like daily communication, build lifelong connections
  • The challenges of balancing ambition, family, and friendships
  • His evolving perspective on success, humility, and making an impact

Key Takeaways:

  • Confidence is often shaped by the voices we hear growing up. When someone repeatedly tells you, "You can do whatever you want in life as long as you put your mind to it," that belief becomes ingrained and fuels the courage to take risks.
  • Staying connected with loved ones doesn’t require elaborate efforts. A simple habit—like a quick phone call in the morning and evening—can create a strong foundation of love, trust, and consistency.
  • People often say they want to stay in touch, but without action, relationships fade. Planning events in advance and extending invitations later makes it easier to maintain friendships over time.
  • Success isn't just about professional achievements. It's also about personal growth, humility, and embracing failure.
  • Making a lasting impact requires looking beyond personal success. The ultimate goal is to contribute to the greater good, or as Kelley puts it, "I want to do max good."

"Remain humble, you know, and fail a little faster." Kelley Thornton

About Kelley Thornton:

Kelley Thornton was born in Towson, MD, moved to Connecticut for high school, started a painting business, and graduated with a degree in Economics from the University of Connecticut in 1990, debt-free. He began his career in sales in New York City and transferred to Chicago a few years later. After a successful 19-year career in the throes of Corporate America, he left the industry to begin his second company, Purchase Point LLC, an in-store design and strategy company with offices in the US, London, and Taiwan.

Through his experience at Purchase Point, he was inspired by the rapidly growing men’s care industry; he founded his third company, Tiege Hanley, Inc., in 2016. Tiege is an e-commerce company with the mission of Helping Men Look and Feel Amazing. With the help of Aaron Marino, a YouTuber with over 6,000,000 followers, and Rob Hoxie, the business has evolved organically, with over 500,000 customers globally and over $100MM in lifetime sales.
