Welcome to Together on a Journey of Hope! In today’s episode, we’re taking you on a virtual pilgrimage through the vibrant neighborhood of Trastevere in Rome. I’m Vincent Riley, Managing Director of Faith, Family, and Discipleship, and joining me are Bishop Kulick and Kate Parkinson. Together, we’ll explore the spiritual richness of this historic area, where Rome was founded, and where countless saints once walked.
Our journey begins at the Church of St. Bartholomew, a site that holds the relics of 20th-century martyrs, including those who suffered under communism and Nazism. Bishop Kulick reflects on the power of seeing these relics and how catechesis in a church setting brings us closer to the heart of our faith, grounded in the Eucharist and the sacraments.
We then move to St. Cecilia’s Church, where we encounter the powerful story of St. Cecilia, the early Christian martyr whose martyrdom itself was a profound witness to her faith. Kate shares her reflection on the sculpture of St. Cecilia, where her body fell in a way that beautifully professed the Creed.
From there, we visit St. Clement’s Church, where Bishop Kulick and other members of our group share reflections on their experiences at this historic site. We also journey to Santa Sabina, a special church for Bishop Kulick, where he offered Mass for Cardinal Tomko, one of his dear friends and a custodian of the church. At Santa Sabina, we’re reminded of the importance of stewardship and the deep connection between the present and the legacy of our faith.
As we walk in the footsteps of saints like St. Dominic and St. Benedict, we reflect on their spiritual influence, especially in places like San Anselmo, where Benedictine spirituality continues to shape the lives of many. Tim Rufflin, one of our regional directors, shares his insights into how the Benedictine vow of stability resonates with his own life as a young married man and a ministry leader.
Throughout the episode, we invite you to reflect on your own faith journey, and we continue to pray for all your intentions. Join us as we walk together, growing in hope, faith, and understanding. Don’t forget to send us your questions and prayer intentions at [email protected], and let’s continue this journey of hope, united in faith.
