In this special episode, Mr Nawan Bala the operator of the Bala Metu Homestay and also the Chairman of the Bario Homestay Association, talks about the Development and the Sustainability of the Homestays in Bario. He also touches on how the homestay community are trying to create a co dependency eco system that helps generate income for the local community of Bario.
He also shares some informative nuggets of wisdom on how those who are interested can apply to be a homestay operator.
In addition to that. He tells us his life story growing up as a kampung boy (Village boy) in the Bario Highlands, Working as an engineer in Shell and being a hard a diligent worker and never passing on an opportunity study and increase his knowledge, which eventually after his retirement he himself unexpectedly opened up a homestay and started to give back to the community.
