Laura K. Connell, Trauma-Informed Author & Coach, and I sit down to discuss her family trauma, which led to her passion for coaching around the dynamics of the dysfunctional family. She and I explore what roles family members play within the broken family. The broken family may be filled with challenging dynamics including abuse, codependency, addiction, estrangement, or high conflict. The dysfunctional roles are the scapegoat, mascot, hero, lost child, and the enabler; and we often vacillate between these roles. Lastly, Laura and I reflect on the impact that family dysfunction has on a person over time and generations.
