Part 2: Talking Abuse and True Empowerment
Manage episode 370953909 series 3379165
Part 2 of this 2 part episode series continues to explore the reality of society today–one where varying levels of abuse and oppression exist–yet maintain the truth that this subject matter can be discussed appropriately from an empowered place. Tune in to learn more about what emotional abuse can look like in your most difficult relationships with humans, but also institutions and organizations. The hope is for you to feel seen, witnessed, validated–or for you to see that you can be this person for your clients in the future. And I’m not exaggerating in mentioning that you could be the “first” person to see your clients in a way that they’ve never experienced before–without bias or agenda.
Carried forward from part 1: Oftentimes, when we hear the word “abuse” we think “ugh, I don’t like that word,” “people overuse and abuse the word ‘abuse,’” or “people who use that word are being victim-y and can’t get over the past”. This is a topic we cover in-depth in my programs but for the purpose of this episode, you’ll still come to discover a high-touch, general definition of abuse. You’ll see that if this applies to you, that you can talk about “Your Lived Experience” from an empowered space. In this episode you’ll learn the definition of emotional abuse, every-day examples of abuse (some might surprise you), and the distinction between behaviors and attitudes. My hope is for you to leave this episode feeling witnessed, validated, and empowered enough to create enough safety within to set boundaries where appropriate in your intimate and other relationships. This work moves us all closer towards living into our authentic self.
