Welcome back to Curiously Enough! Today we are thrilled to have Kim Porter on as our guest. Since 2014, Kim Porter has served as the Executive Director of Be a Part of the Conversation. Be a Part of the Conversation addresses substance use, misuse and addiction and its impact on individuals and their families by building a culture of awareness and support.

They hold events at community centers, schools, or public venues where speakers, professionals, and people in recovery share on prevention & early intervention, understanding substance use and addiction, and supporting recovery. Kim and her fellow board members want individuals to be supported and assisted by a community that is educated and able to take timely and positive action toward healing and lifelong recovery.

Kim is a Certified Family Recovery Specialist (CFRS). With this certification, she shares her lived experience with addiction with other families to provide recovery support services. On this episode, she shares her experience with us and so much more! We talk about addiction being a family disease, what it means to experience a "new normal" and even enabling. In this episode, we dive a little deeper into what addiction is and how that relates to the brain as well as how conversations reduce stigma and invite questions and curiosity.
