In this special release episode of the Painting Your Path™ podcast I interview Ivory Rose, an occupational therapist and poet. We discuss the social prescribing movement and in case you didn’t know, today is Social Prescribing Day 🎉 Ivory shares her journey, including her involvement in Social Prescribing USA and her work on the impact of service on health and wellness. She emphasizes the importance of meaningful activities in wellness, the concept of occupational justice, and how occupational therapists play an important role when we think about connecting the right kind of social prescription activity to a particular person.

Here’s more about Ivory: Dr. Ivory Rose holds a master's in occupational therapy from New York University where she received the Arch Award for excellence in service and a post-professional doctorate in occupational therapy from Boston University, where she designed a prescribed volunteerism program for young adults with lived experience in the foster care system. Ivory utilizes her original poetry to advocate for social change and has performed on international stages from Los Angeles to London to Paris to Athens. As lead of healthcare engagement for Social Prescribing USA, she is a staunch advocate for fostering collaboration between occupational therapy and the social prescribing movement.

If you’re curious about the social prescribing movement, tune in to this episode and get involved! If you’re listening to this episode in real time, there are a number of Social Prescribing activities happening today. I’m hosting a free “art break” that I’m calling Artful Rx at 3pm PST on zoom.
