This week on “The Tie-In,” Zena and Mark touch base with the e-waste management and sustainability dynamic duo that is Allison Elvove, Local 600 Sustainability Committee Western Region Chair, and Alex Coyle, Western Region Member (@icglocal600). Their work involves much more than making sure studio cameras capture all the images we love to watch in post. They’re hosting panels with organizations like NAB Show (https://cloud.e.nabshow.com/2025/) and leading the camera department’s union by educating them on how the department as a whole contributes to sustainability. Understanding what your jobs have to do with sustainability is going a step beyond planting trees or picking up trash, and we admire the forethought and effort people like Alex and Allison exert in going there. It will take the entire entertainment community to make the best possible future happen, and including sustainability in the conversation before shooting will help avoid potentially hazardous practices down the production road.

Let’s empower film crew members and the world by spreading the word! Please visit the Local 600 sustainability website to see how you can get involved.
