Today, I would love to share one of my recent messages from our home church, from a series called Questions Jesus Asked. Sermon Notes: Jesus said, "What’s the big deal if you love people who already love you?" Luke 6:32-35 Choosing to love the unlovable… that’s the big deal. If someone strikes you on one cheek, offer the other cheek too. Luke 6:29 “When we learn to live out the Scriptures the way Jesus lived out the Scriptures, our lives will begin to reflect his Kingdom way of radical love. This counter cultural life will often require us to do the opposite of our natural instincts—instincts that, left unchecked, will only continue to lead to more of the same polarizing, divisive, relationally messed-up stuff we’ve been experiencing. If we don’t choose the opposite, we’ll stay stuck in the same patterns and places we keep finding ourselves.Family conversations will remain stifled or fall silent, crippled by the fear of triggering reactions. Friendships will continue to disintegrate as unacknowledged wrongs and unforgiven wounds destroy trust. The most vulnerable among us will continue to suffer while we look the other way and shrink back from getting involved. We will continue to live in the shallows of spiritual maturity, leaving one church after another in search of a place where everyone thinks just like us. We can choose that way. It is true, Eternal One, that You know everything and everyone. You have surrounded me on every side, behind me and before me, and You have placed Your hand gently on my shoulder. Send The Parable Podcast a Text Our monthly theme episodes give us a chance to focus on a theme and then extend that as an opportunity to see how that can play out in our life and all the relationships that surround us. It is important for me that we dive into our story often to not only see where God has brought us but also continue learning and growing in empathy. In this episode, we are going to talk about listening and how I learned why that is so important, as I had the pleasure of chaperoning 45 High Schoolers, not just once but four different occasions. I can't wait for you to hear about it. My words I shared with the students: Every time I sat in the audience , I was mesmerized by the musicality of every note, your teamwork, effort, every dance move, and your commitment of so many countless hours. It was pure joy to watch everything come together. Even though the end is near on this inaugural season, don't give up on those remarkable gifts each of you have. I am so proud of each one of you. Not just for your talents, but because of the amazing humans you are. The way you cheered each other on, were supportive friends, the laughter through crazy long bus rides, and extending kindness even when no one was looking. Most importantly, I hope you know the impact you made each time you took the stage. You don't know who was in the audience that day or even standing next to you that needed to reminded of the hope in your words...to not give up ...and that you are loved. It made a difference. Continue to take this whole experience with you and know you are more than enough just as you are right in this moment. And whenever you feel like your world is loosing it's mind, let us keep creating more moments like this one. Never be afraid or discouraged because I am your God, the Eternal One, and I will remain with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9 In a turbulent world where people are either dying or being rescued, we are the sweet smell of the Anointed to God our Father. To those who are dying, they smell the stench of death in us. And to those being rescued, we are the unmistakable scent of life.
